Ten tries and eight conversions gave Blyth a comprehensive win over a dogged tough rucking Ponteland.
The scoreline not a true reflection of how hard fought a game it was, as Ponteland probably had more possession and played the game mostly in Blyths half.
For the first eight minutes it seemed that Ponteland would get the better of Blyth with enormous attacking pressure and Blyth not able to get out of their own half choosing to run into contact in the middle of the pitch and losing the ball in the rucks to Ponteland's dominant forwards.
However a handling error was seized upon by Blyth and with a few quick passes they found the space on the wing.
From then on Blyth knew exactly what to do, Ponteland were very strong in the middle of the pitch, but that came at the expense of exposed wings, all Blyth had to do was find that space and move the ball there quickly. The electric pace of the wingers would take it from there.
Ponteland could not compete with the pace of Blyth's back line and the accuracy of their passing.
There were outstanding performances from everywhere in the team, but the boys voted Brian Atienza "Top Tackler" and Ethan Irving "Man of the Match", congratulations to you both.
The Ponteland coach remarked after the game, "We were looking pretty strong, until the Blyth lads stopped running into brick walls in the middle of the park. Every time they (Blyth) strung two passes together, I thought, oh no they're in again!"
The boys dedicated the win to injured team mate David Hoare, who we hope will have a speedy recovery and be back with us in some capacity soon.
Next week we travel to Tynedale, where the lads will need to remember to play to their strengths and not to Tynedales.
