Blyth had to make several changes in their first league game at Wallsend. The front row was last minute choice of Darren White, Callum Smith and Ian Hudson. Scott Robinson slotted in at scrum half, Dave Awcock moved to the back row, giving chance for Jonny Grey & Chris Ardley at center.
Both sides started well and seemed to cancel each other out. Blyth scored first, John Pitkeithley won line out ball, the ball was moved along the backs and Richard Cole managed to break the defensive line and score the try, this was converted by Chris Ardley.
Wallsend then hit back with two tries, one of which was converted giving the home side a 12-7 lead at half time.
In the second half Blyth took back the lead with a Jonny Grey try again converted by Chris. 12-14. Wallsend hit back with their 3rd try the conversion giving them the lead 19-14.
With only 5 minutes remaining Shaun Robinson was put clear to score and level the game. In the attack Ian Hudson was injured and required treatment on the field. Both teams agreed to halt the game at that point.
