Blyth 2nd team hosted Berwick this week in what has historically proven to be a gritty, physical fixture. Blyth fielded a mixture of experience and youth while Berwick travelled with a primarily young team. After getting off to a fast paced start, the game looked all but over after 25 minutes with Berwick taking a 15-0 lead. However Blyth kept fighting and a try late in the first half by Scrum Half Ollie Clark kept them in the game.

Blyth came out with great determination in the 2nd half with some brilliant work in the forwards allowing Prop Gary Christie and Captain Jimmy Henning to muscle over for quick succession tries. The home team took the lead for the first time in the game. The turning point came mid way through the 2nd half when a Blyth sin bin allowed Berwick to take advantage of having the extra man, successfully running in two tries and kicking a penalty. Blyth fought back late in the second half but could not produce a late come back.

Next week is the first league fixture of the season for the 2nd XV and a lot of positives can be taken from this week's performance to ensure they come away with a much needed victory.
