Blyth visited the Ravens in their new home at Percy Park, and another first was the evening kick off under lights. The one uninvited guest at the game, unfortunately played a big part how the match was played, Hurricane Abigail, was to the fore all during the game and dictated game plans for both sides.
Blyth lost the toss and kicking off with the hurricane behind them, had the luxury of kicking advantage and windage to run the ball in hand. After early pressure, Blyth won a scrum near the home line, no 8 Henderson picked up to feed scrum half Gates who outstripped the defence to score. Gates was a late replacement, having retired to referee some time ago, offered to play when the Bucks lost some players on the evening of the game. The elements allowed Blyth to dominate territory and after a good break from the backs, Hogg forced his way through to score, the Ravens as usual did not allow Blyth to have it all their way and their tackling stopped the bucks in their tracks time after time. The Blyth back row of Mel Cole, Mick Cobley and Steve Henderson, had their hands full all evening trying to contain a very fit and enthusiastic Ravens trio. Continued pressure from the visitors saw the best try of the half, forwards and backs combining for Hogg to complete his brace.
The second half saw the fortunes change with the elements, Blyth having lost Hall and Gates to injury, replaced by Jackson and Charlton, were under pressure from the start, and using the advantage of wind and pace, the Ravens scored an excellent try. With the wind stopping Blyth from kicking any clearances, the forwards were forced to drive the ball out of defence, this took its toll on the Veterans, and the side had to dig deep to stay in the game. From a foray into the Ravens half, the forwards were able to carry the ball up to the 5 meter line, from a quick recycle, Scott Robinson fed Andy Wilkinson who crashed over to score. The Ravens were not to be out done and pressed Blyth constantly, the advantage of pace and youth now playing a crucial role, however with the mid field of Ken Barratt, Scott Robinson and Chris Hogg, Blyth seemed able to cope. A clash of head between Blyth prop Jason Raisbeck and a Ravens forward stopped the game for a while, to allow concussion assessment to take place, both players being able to continue, the game restarted, and the Ravens took advantage to out strip the Blyth defence and score a long range try. Blyth were under extreme pressure and only resolute defence stopped the Ravens adding to their scores, with Steve Roberts coming onto the centres to bolster the defence. In the end Blyth defence was enough to hold the Ravens to 2 scores, although they were run close by a fit and enthusiastic Ravens team. Tom Brooks came on to play for Blyth in the second row, 3 months after his 65th Birthday and fitted straight into the team. The referee was an old adversary of Blyth, former Seghill no8 from the 80s and 90s, Fraser (Jock) Gill, he played a part with his sympathetic referring and was able to catch up with some of the older Blyth players and relive some of the games from his past.

A rematch is arranged at Blyth on the evening of December 11th, all and supporters welcome.
