The score line flatters Blyth some what as the game proved to be a hard fought contest, where the Ravens at times tackled Blyth to a standstill, resulting in several injuries . The game started at a frenetic pace, with the Ravens using their youth and pace to move the Blyth veterans around the park. A speculative kick from Blyth fly half Graham Bell, saw the ball bounce near the Ravens line, Dave Grey following up at pace, dribbled the ball to the line, however a clumsy tackle ended with Dave leaving the field with a knee injury. The resulting scrum saw the Bucks drive the Ravens back over the line for Steve Henderson to touch down. A scrum in a similar position 5 minutes later was another opportunity for Blyth to use their strength, the powerful Blyth forwards worked hard all day with Gary Christy outstanding. From the scrum, no 8 Henderson again showed control to pick and feed Baz Smith who crashed over to score, unfortunately in scoring Baz received an injury which forced him out of the game. The first half continued in a similar vein, with heavy tackles resulting in another 2 Blyth players having to leave the field. As the half time approached, Blyth surged up field, for Scott Robinson to round the defence, showing his pace to score out wide, Dave Charlton adding the extra points. The final score of the half came from a familiar setting, a scrum in close, no 8 Henderson controlling the drive to touch down.
The second half started all in favour of the Ravens with several attacks eventually culminating in a converted try. Greg Dawson at Fly Half started to influence the Blyth attacking rhythm, and with a flowing move saw Dawson combine with Scott Robinson to put pacey winger Andy Jackson (2) free to out flank the defence and score. Within minutes a carbon copy move ended with Jackson scoring his second. An uncharacteristic flare up, in the middle of the park saw both sides lose players to the naughty step, this however calmed the game a little, and as both teams started to play rugby, chances went begging at both ends. The Blyth forwards worked hard all day, and got their reward when following several drives to the line, Mel Cole acting at scrum half, spun the ball out wide to Jackson to score his 3rd try. Andy Jackson created some thing of a record for the Buccaneers, 2 games, 6 tries, no jugs. The scoring was completed for Blyth, when Scott Robinson again broke the line, this time feeding bother Keny following up in support, for him to power over and score. Blyth then lost another player to the naughty step following a trip in mid field; the veterans down to 13 men for the closing stages were under a lot of pressure with the Ravens coming close several times, however hard work by all the Bucks managed to prevent any more scores. Blyth offered a debut to returning military man, Steve Philips who showed some excellent touches and played his part in the win. The Ravens are a team who are bucking the present trend and are attracting new players all the time, the team seeing several changes to the recent encounter in January. This however is a mixed blessing for them, as the players seem to need time to bed into the team and learn the game plan and moves, when this does happen, the Ravens will certainly be a force to reckon with.
