End to end match against Winlaton ends with Blyth bonus point victory
Blyth welcomed Winlaton Vulcans to Plessey Road for their second league fixture of the new season. On a sweltering hot day both sides showed fitness and adventure to create a high scoring and open game of rugby to entertain the spectators. The lead changed hands regularly during the game as both sides had periods of the game when they dominated possession and territory only to be hit by a counter punch allowing the opposition to get a foothold back in the game. Blyth won out by 7 tries to 6 with Captain Scott Bates opening the scoring from an excellent driving maul. Omar Laidler added a timely second late in the first half finishing off an excellent handling move to score under the posts. Blyth built what looked like a commanding lead with three early second half tries by Cameron Mannners, Lewis Bowman and Corey Hart however Winlaton fought back hard and securing a narrow lead as the game entered the last quarter. Blyth rallied again with Vegas Liddell and Lewis Bowman scoring tries late on to see the home side through. Josh Ramsay had a good day with the boot converting six from seven tries to help secure victory. Next week Blyth face a stern test with a visit to one of the best sides in the league from last season, Gosforth.
